The Practice of Mindful Habit Change is a course that combines mindfulness practices and the neuroscience behind how habits are formed with the emphasis on learning how to change the unwanted ones. It is especially beneficial for anyone who wants to explore the possibilities of positive behavior change through curiosity and kindness practices instead of forced and usually failed “will power” practices, working with the current neuroscience of the brain. This course meets for 90 minutes per week for six weeks.  It is based on the current research of Dr. Judson Brewer, MD PHD.

In this class, participants will learn how to develop a greater awareness of how habits are formed and then how to begin stepping out of the unwanted ones through mindfulness. By applying the current neuroscience with the reward-based learning system of the brain, we will learn how to map out habits by identifying the triggers and behaviors associated with them and begin with ways to short circuit the unwanted ones in “small moments, many times a day” practices.  With the guidance from a trained instructor in Mindfulness-Based Habit Change and using the group as the fertile learning field, we begin the journey in moving towards a greater sense of well-being and improved health through positive behavior change.  Whether these unwanted habits are around social media, over planning, anxiety, excessive worrying, procrastination, nail biting, or whatever, this class will help untangle this through greater kindness and self-compassion, using the latest neuroscience. This course is appropriate for beginners and/or those with a seasoned background of mindfulness.

A flipped classroom model uses either the Unwinding Anxiety app or Unwinding Anxiety book as a source for material, purchased separately.  Cost: $250.00. Scholarships are available.
